Patiala 6 June ( PDL ) : The first day of the two-day cultural festival "Rhythmia" organized by the North Zone Cultural Centre under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, witnessed a unique confluence of Indian art, culture, dance and classical music. Held at the Kalidas Auditorium, the dance drama "The Game of Dice" by internationally renowned choreographer Santosh Nair and the melodious performance of renowned surbahar player Dr. Ashwin Mahesh Dalvi mesmerized the audience.
The program began with the dance-drama "The Game of Dice" presented by Santosh Nair and his team. Based on the gambling episode from the Mahabharata, this performance showcased an impressive synthesis of Kathakali, Chhau, and contemporary dance styles. Through dance, acting, music, and lighting, themes such as power, ego, religion, morality, and human values were vividly presented. At the conclusion of the performance, the audience welcomed the performers with thunderous applause. After this, the famous Surbahar player Dr. Ashwin Mahesh Dalvi enthralled the audience with his serious and soulful performance.introduced the depths of Indian classical music. Dr. Dalvi, who belongs to the Etawah Gharana tradition, brought to life the dignity and spiritual sentiments of the Dhrupad style through the alaap, jod, and jhala of the surbahar. Mrinal Upadhyay from Mumbai, who accompanied him on the pakhawaj, and Pandurang Pawar from Pune, who accompanied him on the tabla, made the performance even more captivating.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Furqan Khan stated that these exquisite dance and music performances on the first day of Rhythmia brought alive the rich traditions of Indian cultural heritage for the audience. At the end of the program, the artists were honored to a prolonged round of applause. The first day of the festival proved to be an unforgettable cultural experience for art lovers.
