250 Saplings Planted in Sector 48
Chandigarh 27 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Reaffirming the commitment to environmental conservation and a greener future, the month-long Tree Plantation Mega Campaign jointly organized by Lok Vikas Manch and Bharat Vikas Parishad, Central Zone concluded successfully on the birthday of former Chandigarh Mayor Davesh Moudgil. During the campaign, the target of planting 1,500 saplings within one month was accomplished. The concluding plantation drive was held in the green belt between Kendriya Vihar, Universal and Silvertone Society, Sector 48, Chandigarh, where 250 saplings were planted.
Sharing details of the campaign, Jasjyot Singh Almast, General Secretary, Lok Vikas Manch, said that the initiative was undertaken to raise public awareness about environmental conservation and encourage citizens to reconnect with nature. He added that the enthusiastic participation of people from all sections of society transformed the campaign into a true people's movement. Former Chandigarh Mayor Davesh Moudgil graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by M.K. Virmani, P.K. Sharma, Tilak Raj Wadhwa, R.S. Paur, and Rakesh Kumar Sakoria, who attended as Guests of Honour, adding dignity to the event.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Davesh Moudgil said, "Environmental protection is not only the responsibility of an individual or the government; it is the collective responsibility of society. If we want to provide future generations with a safe, clean, and healthy environment, we must begin taking concrete steps to protect nature today." He further stated that preserving clean air, pure water, and a clean earth is essential for safeguarding human life. He emphasized that environmental conservation should not remain merely a campaign but should evolve into a strong social value and a mass movement.
Expressing his gratitude for the special programme organized on his birthday, he thanked all the citizens, social workers, and partner organizations, saying, "There can be no greater gift for me than seeing all of us come together today to pledge our commitment to protecting nature, the environment, and life itself." During the programme, all participants collectively resolved to plant more trees, ensure their proper care and maintenance, and spread the message of environmental conservation to every section of society. The successful completion of the Tree Plantation Mega Campaign was widely appreciated as an inspiring initiative towards building a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable Chandigarh.
