SAD questions exclusion of Sikh candidates from Panjab University VC selection process There should be transparency in selection process : Maheshinder Singh Grewal Chandigarh 7 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Maheshinder Singh Grewal today expressed concern over the exclusion of Sikh candidates from the interaction process for the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University while asserting that no Sikh applicant had been invited for interviews despite the presence of several accomplished scholars and experienced academic administrators in the applicant pool. In a statement here, Maheshinder Grewal said the interaction process, which began on July 3, had raised serious questions about inclusivity, fairness and transparency in the selection process. He said the absence of Sikh candidates from the shortlisted applicants had created an unfortunate impression that deserving members of the Sikh community had been overlooked....
Chandigarh Postal Division Makes Special arrangements for "Rakhi Mail"
Chandigarh 7 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : As the festival of Raksha Bandhan is to be celebrated on 28th August, 2026 this year, Chandigarh Postal Division is all set to facilitate all kinds of postal services to the residents by booking and delivery of Rakhi Mail and related gift items to spread the happiness among the public. The booking of Rakhi Mails is being accepted for various parts of the country as well as for foreign countries. Night counter for booking of mails/parcels up to 2000 Hours is available at Chandigarh GPO at Sector-17, Chandigarh and up to 1900 hrs at Head Post Office Ropar.
Moving a step forward and to facilitate the general public during the upcoming festive season of Rakhi, the Department of Posts has decided to keep selected Post Offices operational on Sundays and Gazetted Holidays to provide extended postal services. Accordingly, the following offices in Chandigarh Division will remain open on all the Sundays and Holidays falling between 15.07.2026 and 28.08.2026, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM:
- Chandigarh GPO
- Ropar HO
- Sector-55 SO
- Manimajra SO
- Sector-19PO
- Zirakpur SO
- Kharar SO
During this period, MPCM counters and Aadhaar counters will remain functional in these offices. The services available will include booking of all types of accountable mails and parcels (Domestic & International) & New Aadhaar enrolment and updation services.
India Post has launched a special kind of Rakhi envelope and boxes (water resistant) to carry Rakhis reasonably priced at Rs 15/-, Rs. 20/- and Rs. 50/-. These specially designed Rakhi envelopes are available at all Post Offices of UT Chandigarh, Mohali & Ropar districts.
To add wings to Rakhi, customers can also avail the facility of 'Rakhi by Speed Post'. Special delivery of Rakhi mail in all delivery Post Offices on 26th August 2026 and 27th August, 2026 will also be done. Chandigarh Division will make efforts to deliver the Rakhi on 28.08.2026 also (Raksha Bandhan Day). We assure safe, secure and prompt conveyance of love and affection of the sisters to their brothers. Brothers can also send "Thanks messages' to their sisters through e-Post/Post Cards available at all Post Offices.The Department of Posts remains committed to delivering efficient and customer-friendly services.
