Farmers hold massive protest against India-US trade agreement, new land pooling policy and other demands
Chandigarh 10 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Today, on the call of two farmers' organizations of Punjab, Bhartiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan and Bhartiya Kisan Union Ekta Dakonda, tens of thousands of farmers, men and women, who reached Chandigarh in the pouring rain from every corner of Punjab, held a massive rally at Dussehra Ground in Sector 34 against the India-US trade agreement and the new land pooling policy, as well as against the American attack on Iran and the burden of inflation being imposed on the Indian people under the guise of this attack. They protested till Matka Chowk and gave a strong hearing to the Modi government of the Center and the Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab.
Addressing the large gathering gathered on this occasion, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, State President of Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan and Manjit Singh Dhaner, State President of Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Dakonda said that the India-US trade agreement being implemented by the Modi government will hit the farmers as well as all the working classes of the society. Agricultural products coming from the American market will displace Indian farmers and other industrial goods will displace small industrialists and small traders/businessmen. They said that the Modi government is betraying the country by bowing to the pressure of the American imperialists, while it has been claiming to be a pure nationalist government in the country. In reality, this government is serving the imperialists through its communal nationalist politics. They said that the Bhagwant Mann government wants to bring back the predatory land pooling policy, which was canceled after strong opposition from the farmers, and to allow corporate businessmen and real estate tycoons to loot the farmers' lands at any cost. He announced that the farmers of Punjab will not allow such a policy of agricultural waste and farmer waste to be implemented.
Speaking on the occasion, Jhanda Singh Jethuke and Gurdeep Singh Rampura strongly condemned the military attack launched by the American empire on Iran. They said that this attack has been carried out to rob Iran and end the Iranian resistance to retain control over oil in the entire Middle East. The American imperialist rulers are pursuing their own policies and agreements to rob countries around the world and are going as far as to assassinate the rulers of countries who raise their voices against these policies and attack countries. Instead of standing with Iran, which is fighting a just war, the Modi government is supporting Israel and America in the service of the American empires. Under the guise of this war, a heavy burden is being placed on the people through the increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. They demanded that these price hikes be withdrawn and the treasury be filled by imposing heavy taxes directly on multinational companies, big capitalists and landlords and the treasury be opened to the people.
Women leader Harinder Bindu, through his speech, called upon women to join the struggle and said that women sisters bear the brunt of inflation the most in the society. Therefore, this section should be brought to the battlefield with more force. BKU (Ekta Dakounda) leader Angrej Singh Bhadour called upon all sections to join the path of joint struggle. Stage Secretary Shingara Singh Mann performed.During today's gathering, a resolution was presented demanding the lifting of the ban on the film Sutlej and the resolution was passed by the people with a show of hands and at the same time, the people were called upon to be aware of the intentions of communal vote politicians.
