Massive Convention of the Joint Employees' Front Held in Support of Pending Demands
Demand for one-time regularisation of temporary employees who have completed 10 years of service raised prominently

Chandigarh 7 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Sanyukt Karamchari Morcha (UT & MC Chandigarh) today organised a massive convention at Bhakna Bhawan in support of the long-pending demands of employees. Representatives of various employees' unions and federations, along with a large number of employees, participated in the convention. Addressing the gathering, the speakers accused the Chandigarh Administration and the Municipal Corporation of adopting an indifferent approach towards resolving employees' long-pending issues.They stated that several concerns relating to regular, contractual, outsourced, daily-wage, pensioner and other categories of employees have remained unresolved for years and require immediate attention.
The convention strongly demanded one-time regularisation of daily-wage, contractual and other temporary employees who have completed 10 years of service; recruitment of outsourced employees through a government-controlled centralised agency instead of the GeM portal; equal pay for equal work; repeal of the new labour laws; an end to retrenchment of temporary employees in the name of rationalisation; withdrawal of ESMA imposed in the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) and the Electricity Department; cancellation of termination and retirement orders issued to crèche employees; withdrawal of FIRs registered against CTU Employees' Union leaders; adjustment of government employees transferred from the Electricity Department; full implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations; and payment of pending arrears.
The convention also demanded enhancement of the ESI and bonus eligibility limit to ₹50,000, implementation of the CGHS medical facility, compassionate appointment to dependents of deceased employees without any ceiling, enhancement of honorarium for Mid-Day Meal workers, and reinstatement of outsourced CTU conductors who were removed from service. Convener Gopal Dutt Joshi cited various judgments of the Supreme Court and demanded one-time regularisation of all categories of temporary employees who have completed ten years or more of service, besides reinstatement of the terminated crèche employees.
Sukhbir Singh stressed the need to recruit outsourced employees through a government-controlled centralised agency instead of the GeM portal to ensure job security. Ranjit Mishra demanded the repeal of the new labour laws, enhancement of the ESI eligibility limit for outsourced employees, and an increase in the wages of Mid-Day Meal workers. Surmukh Singh called for implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, filling of vacant posts, and clearance of pending promotions of employees. Ranjit Singh Hans demanded withdrawal of the FIRs registered against CTU employees' leaders and reinstatement of the outsourced conductors who had been removed from service. Bipin Sher Singh emphasised the need to ensure social security, job security and equal pay for equal work for all temporary employees.
Representatives and office-bearers of various employees' organisations and federations also participated in the convention. Among those present were office-bearers of the Federation of UT & MC Employees, UT Chandigarh Subordinate Federation, Joint Employees Welfare Association, Joint Action Committee of UT & MC Employees, UT SS Federation and All Contractual Karamchari Sangh Bharat, including Gopal Dutt Joshi, Ranjit Mishra, Surmukh Singh, Sukhbir Singh, Ranjit Singh Hans, Bipin Sher Singh, Rajendra Katoch, Harkesh Chand, Raja Ram, Kamal Kumar, Kuldeep Singh, M. M. Subramaniam, Naseeb Singh, Ranjit Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Ram Swaroop, Ashok Kumar, Satish Kumar, Ravinder Bindu, Harpal Singh, Chander Jaswal, Sahil Kahlon, Shiv Kumar and Vinay Paswan. At the conclusion of the convention, the Sanyukt Karamchari Morcha warned that if the employees' demands are not addressed at the earliest, it will launch a massive rally, protest demonstration and dharna on 5th August, Sector 23 Ground,Opposite Cricket Stadium, Chandigarh.
