M.M. Subramanyam dismissed from the post of General Secretary and primary membership of the union;
Hardeep Singh becomes General Secretary of the CMC Horticulture Workers' Union, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh 13 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A meeting of the executive committee of the CMC Horticulture Workers' Union, Chandigarh (Regd. No. 473) was held today, July 13, 2026, in Sector 30 under the chairmanship of Union President Harkesh Chand. In this emergency meeting, former General Secretary M.M. Subramanyam was dismissed from his post and primary membership due to allegations of involvement in anti-union activities and collusion with anti-social elements seeking to weaken the union. S. Hardeep Singh was unanimously elected General Secretary until the next conference. Additionally, Sohan Lal was appointed Joint Secretary, Rajendra Kumar as Cashier, and Mandeep Sharma, Vinod Meelu, and Perumal as Organizing Secretaries. Other office bearers will continue in their roles until the General Body meeting, and it was decided to convene the union's General Body meeting on August 25, 2026.
The meeting resolved to continue the struggle for various demands, including: cancelling the decision to hand over parks and green belts managed by the Horticulture Department to private entities; regularizing all contract workers who have completed 10 years of service; bringing outsourced workers directly under the department to free them from the clutches of contractors; implementing "equal pay for equal work" with immediate effect; repealing labor codes; expediting pensionary benefits for retired employees; increasing limits for bonuses, gratuity, and ESI; accelerating employee promotions; and providing employment to the dependents of deceased workers.
A call was also made to participate in the mega-rally on August 5, 2026, and to give a befitting reply to anti-union elements by ensuring the success of the organizational conference scheduled for August 25, 2026, while continuing the membership drive. All office bearers, executive committee members, and advisors, along with the Federation's President and Chief, specially attended the meeting. All members welcomed the newly elected General Secretary, Hardeep Singh, and other office bearers with floral garlands.
