Curtains fall on 3-day Comedy Theatre Festival at Kalagram
Hilarious play ‘Arre Sharif Log' leaves audience in splits
Chandigarh 13 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : On the concluding day of the 3-day 'Comedy Theatre Festival-26', hosted by the North Zone Cultural Centre {NZCC}, Patiala, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, being a Sunday holiday, avid theatre lovers drawn from the distant corners of the Tricity, converged on the sprawling Kalagram grounds in large numbers to watch the iconic comedy play 'Arre Sharif Log', staged by accomplished theatre artistes from Prayagraj, (UP). The programme started with the Sarswati Vandna presented by students learning vocal music at Kalagram under the patronage of NZCC.
It was now time for the artistes to hop on to the centre stage and showcase their theatrical skills. The successful staging of the satirical play 'Arre Sharif Log' by a theatre troupe from Prayagraj (UP) marked the end of the 3-day extravaganza of comedy and wit. Written by renowned playwright Jaywant Dalvi, the play was directed by Dr.Mukesh Upadhyay and Sunil Chauhan, top guns of the theatre world. The comic story meanders through a series of humorous anedotes and situations, highlighting the dubious human behaviour and hidden frailites of people who portray themselves as the highly respectable and cultured members of society. Amid the element of fun and frolic, it also delivered a sharp satire on human nature, social pretence and hypocrisy plaguing the society ad a whole.
The cast of the rib-tickling included Sagar Sahu, who acted as the Loudspeaker, Saksham Mishra as Chhedilal, Prachi Sehgal as Kalawati, Devansh Singh as Anokhelal, and Kajal as Lakshmi. Divakar Dubey, Mantu, Ansh, Govind, Nikasha and Deepak also richly contributed to the successful enactment of the thematic play. Behind the curtain, Durgesh Shukla and Pradeep Kumar handled the stage, while Sakshi provided the music score. Sunil Chauhan helmed the lighting arrangements

On the occasion, NZCC Director Dr. Ashwin M. Dalvi, greeted the audience for turning up in large numbers to make the 3-day Comedy Theatre fest a huge success.He also offered gratitude to media persons (both Print and Digital) for giving ample space to the event. He patted the artistes for taking part in the fest and showcase their theatrical skills to a larger audience.
