Shahbad 19 September ( PDL ) : The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chaduni) has demanded that the Haryana government immediately increase the financial assistance provided for accidental death and permanent disability or loss of limb under the 'Mukhyamantri Kisan evam Khetihar Mazdoor Jeevan Suraksha Yojana, 2013,' and remove the scheme's maximum age limit of 65 years to extend the benefits for a lifetime. A memorandum regarding this matter has been sent by the BKU (Chaduni) to the Chief Minister, the Agriculture Minister, and the Chairman and Chief Administrator of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board.
The union stated that this scheme has been in effect since January 1, 2014. Since then, there has been a continuous rise in inflation, medical expenses, and the cost of supporting the family, yet the assistance amount provided under the scheme has not seen the expected increase. In the event of the death of a farmer or agricultural laborer, or if they sustain serious injuries in an accident, the family faces a financial crisis. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the current assistance amount in line with the prevailing circumstances.
The union has demanded that the assistance amount be fixed as follows—
* Death: Increased from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh
* Spinal cord fracture or permanent disability: Increased from ₹2.50 lakh to ₹15 lakh
* Loss of two limbs/permanent severe injury: Increased from ₹1.875 lakh to ₹10 lakh
* Loss of one limb/permanent severe injury: Increased from ₹1.25 lakh to ₹5 lakh
* Loss of an entire finger: Increased from ₹75,000 to ₹2.50 lakh
* Partial loss of a finger: Increased from ₹37,500 to ₹1.50 lakh
The BKU (Chaduni) stated that the work of farmers and agricultural laborers does not cease simply based on age. In rural areas, many farmers and laborers continue to work in the fields even after turning 65. Consequently, being denied the benefits of the scheme in the event of a farm-related accident after the age of 65 creates an unjust situation for them. The union has demanded the removal of the scheme's maximum age limit of 65 years so that eligible farmers and agricultural laborers can avail themselves of its benefits for life. The BKU (Chaduni) has demanded that the Haryana government—keeping in mind the financial security of farming and agricultural labor families—take an immediate decision on these two crucial demands and implement the necessary amendments to the scheme.
