Strike by Punjab Roadways/Punbus/PRTC Ends Following a Panel Meeting with the Punjab Transport/Finance Minister; Bus Services Resumed
Chandigarh 24 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Following a completely successful, continuous strike and sit-in protest—initiated by the organization on October 21, 2026—and subsequent rounds of talks with the government, a panel meeting was held today, October 24, 2026, with the Honorable Transport Minister of Punjab at the PRTC Head Office. During the meeting, it was agreed to immediately implement the organization's demands. The Transport Minister of Punjab will issue joining letters on October 26–27, 2026, to transition outsourced employees onto contractual status. Furthermore, responsibilities have been assigned to officials to reach a final decision regarding the remaining demands during a follow-up meeting scheduled for October 29, 2026. In light of this, the organization has called off the strike and sit-in protest, and bus services have been restored. At the same time, the organization has issued a warning to the government that... If the demands are not met by October 29, intense forms of agitation—including strikes and sit-ins—will be launched immediately; the full responsibility for this will lie with the Punjab Government and the concerned departmental officials.
