Climate Leadership Program at Chandigarh University on May 6

Chandigarh 2 May ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The IJ Doda Foundation will organize a *Climate Media Leadership Program (CMLP)* on May 6 at Chandigarh University. The program aims to promote accurate and responsible reporting on climate-related issues. This initiative is being conducted under an environmental education program supported by the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, with coordination from the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology.

The one-day program will bring together students and faculty from journalism and mass communication, along with early-career media professionals. Participants will receive training in data interpretation, fact-based reporting, and responsible presentation of environmental issues. The program is particularly significant given the growing environmental pressures in Punjab. Official data indicates that over 75% of the state’s groundwater blocks are over-exploited. Additionally, PM2.5 levels frequently exceed national standards, and several river regions continue to face pollution, impacting public health and agriculture.

The event will be conducted under the guidance of MP Satnam Singh Sandhu. Key speakers include Dharminder Sharma, Jonita Doda, and senior journalist Vijay Barad, along with other experts. Foundation President Jonita Doda emphasized that the way environmental issues are reported directly influences public perception and policymaking, making responsible climate communication the need of the hour. The program is seen as an important step toward increasing environmental awareness and encouraging responsible behavior.
