Mohali residents bearing the brunt of GMADA's alleged collusion with builders; strict action demanded against guilty officials and builders : Ubha
S.A.S.Nagar 18 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Hardev Singh Ubha, State Press Secretary of BJP Punjab, stated that residents across various sectors and colonies in Mohali are currently suffering the consequences of GMADA's policies, negligence, and alleged collusion with builders. People in several areas, including Preet City (Sector 86), have been grappling with uncertainty and hardships for years, despite the fact that the common public bears no responsibility for this situation. He asserted that if any GMADA official is found negligent or complicit, or if any builder has violated regulations, the strictest possible action must be taken against them. The Punjab government should order a high-level inquiry into the matter to bring the truth to light.
Hardev Singh Ubha emphasized that any financial liability or payment obligation arising from this situation should be borne by GMADA and the Punjab government, rather than being passed on to the common people. Residents purchased plots and homes using their life savings; therefore, they should not be penalized for the errors of the government machinery. He demanded the immediate regularization and approval of unapproved plots in all affected sectors and colonies, including Preet City (Sector 86), to ensure residents receive full benefits regarding ownership rights, property registration, basic amenities, and other development works.
Ubha also questioned the basis on which projects belonging to defaulting builders or developers are continuing to operate and who is granting them approvals. A fair and thorough investigation into the entire matter is essential to identify the individuals and entities responsible. They demanded that the matter be investigated by an independent or central agency so that the roles of GMADA, builders, and other concerned parties could be thoroughly examined and action taken against the guilty in accordance with the law.
They stated that the Punjab government should prioritize the interests of the people, immediately announce a relief package, and ensure justice for the affected families. Instead of making the residents of Mohali wait any longer, a permanent solution to this problem must be found.
