Jain Milan criticises Maneka Gandhi

Chandigarh 28 June ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Today, the monthly Navkar Mahamantra recitation and Bhaktaambar Deep Archana were organised at Shri Digambar Jain Mandir, Chandigarh, under the aegis of Jain Milan, Chandigarh. Hundreds of devotees participated in this occasion. This recitation has been conducted by Jain Milan Chandigarh branch on the last Sunday of every month for the past thirty-three years. Mrs. Kavita Jain and her family had the privilege of organising today's recitation. The entire executive committee of Jain Milan Chandigarh and Shri Digambar Jain Samaj was present on this occasion.

Following the reading, the gathering was addressed by Shri Sant Kumar Jain (Chief Secretary of the Digambar Jain Society, Chandigarh). In his speech, he condemned the remarks made by former Minister Maneka Gandhi, in which she criticized the use of the peecha by Jain monks, and called on the community to unite and submit a memorandum to the government on this issue.
He explained that peacocks are not killed to make feathers, but rather, during their breeding season, peacocks shed all their feathers once a year, and these feathers are used to make feathers. Furthermore, peacock feathers are used in religious rituals in all religions, whether Islam or Sanatan. Why only Jainism? Mrs. Gandhi's accusation against the Jain community is completely baseless and unfounded. She should seek complete information before making such a statement. It appears she made this comment solely to grab headlines. She has been reprimanded several times in the past for her comments. At the end of the program all the devotees enjoyed food.
