Electricity employees' protest deferred for 15 days following CPDL's agreement to most demands. Chandigarh 21 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The union has deferred the protest scheduled for tomorrow, July 22, 2026, for the next 15 days after the CPDL management agreed to most of the demands and assured their implementation within a specific timeframe. During a two-and-a-half-hour meeting held today between CPDL and union office-bearers, assurances were given regarding employee promotions, absorbing contract workers onto the company rolls, implementing circulars for time-bound promotion scales and ACP, converting part-time staff to full-time roles, and providing uniforms, education allowances, safety equipment, and raincoats. Commitments were also made to implement revised DC rates, resolve issues related to APAR filing, provide risk duty and shift duty allowances along with electricity allowances to field staff, and immediately clear all outstanding employee dues. Chandigarh Congress protests against paper leak cases, burns effigy of Dharmendra Pradhan
Chandigarh 21 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) marched carrying placards and burnt the effigy of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan during a protest at Sector 17 Plaza, demanding his resignation and raising slogans against the central government. Addressing the gathering, Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee President HS Lucky said that the youth of the country have been forced to take to the streets to protect their future. In the last few years, around 152 recruitment and competitive examinations across the country have been affected by alleged paper leaks, shattering the dreams of lakhs of young candidates. The future of countless students has been put in jeopardy and over 21 students have committed suicide due to frustration. Despite this, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has refused to take moral responsibility and is attached to his office.
HS Lucky said that the entire country has witnessed the scenes at Jantar Mantar where students demanding their rights were met not with dialogue but with police batons. The push, attack and alleged misbehavior of students clearly shows that the Modi government is afraid of democratic voices. A government that cannot answer the questions raised by the youth is trying to suppress their voices through the use of police force.
He further said that paper leaks are no longer isolated incidents but have become a deep stain on India's education system, which has broken the trust of lakhs of families. He stressed that the Congress party stands firmly with the students in their struggle. The party will continue its agitation till Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns and an effective, strict and accountable system is implemented to stop paper leaks.
On this occasion, student leaders and Congress workers unanimously demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, an impartial investigation into all paper leak cases, strict punishment for those responsible, and implementation of strict laws. A large number of office bearers, student leaders and workers of NSUI, Youth Congress and Chandigarh Congress, including Hussain Sultania, Sachin Galv, Jatin Singh, were present in this protest.
