Chandigarh/Mohali 19 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan/Samgar Shiksha Abhiyan and Mid-Day Meal Office Employees Union, Punjab accused the Bhagwant Mann government of adopting anti-employee policies and said that the government first broke the economic backbone of the families of office employees by cutting their salaries by Rs. 31,000 per month and now the employees are being forced to starve by not releasing salaries for four consecutive months. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Mid-Day Meal Office Employees Union leaders Kuldeep Singh, Gurmeet Singh Bhunder, Rajinder Singh Sandha, Jagmohan Singh, Jagsir Singh, Aman Thapar, Vikas Kumar Varinder Singh Chamkor Singh Varun Jain Jaival Jain Janak Singh said that on one hand the government makes big claims of education reforms, but on the other hand the office employees of the education department are being deprived of their hard-earned earnings. Due to non-payment of salaries for four months, the employees have been unable to meet their household expenses, pay children's fees, bank installments and meet their daily needs.
The union said that the Punjab government should explain why the salaries of the employees have been stopped when the entire work is being taken from them. Making the employees suffer for their hard earned money does not befit any democratic government. The leaders said that on one hand, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is making a statement that if any officer comes to him to get a file signed, he first asks whether this will not cause any loss in the salary of any employee, then we want to ask the Chief Minister that when our salaries were reduced from 50,000 to 19,000, did the officers not tell you? The Education Department has imposed a cut of 31,000-31,000 on the salaries of employees from March 2026.
The leaders said that a meeting has been scheduled with Finance Minister Harpal Cheema on July 23, during which a demand will be made for immediate release of four months' arrears of salaries and withdrawal of the salary deduction of ₹31,000 per month and if these demands are not resolved concretely and the discrimination against the employees is not ended, then a fierce struggle will be launched at the state level. The entire responsibility for this will lie with the Punjab government.
