Chandigarh 17 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Chandigarh, has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approval for increasing the number of MBBS seats at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. The association stated that the decision marks a significant step towards strengthening medical education and ensuring the availability of more qualified doctors across the country. In a joint statement, Dr. Ramneek Singh Bedi, National Chairman IMA AMS and nominated Councillor of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, Dr. Anil Kumar, President, IMA Chandigarh, and Dr. Gulpreetkaur, Honorary Secretary, IMA Chandigarh, said that the expansion of MBBS seats at a premier institution like PGIMER is a historic decision in the field of medical education. It will provide more meritorious students with the opportunity to study at one of India’s leading medical institutions while strengthening the country’s healthcare system in the years to come.
The office-bearers welcomed the enhancement of mother and child health centre and neurology department and said that with India’s growing population and increasing demand for quality healthcare services, expanding medical education has become the need of the hour. They described the Prime Minister’s decision as a visionary initiative that will contribute significantly to the development of the medical profession and the strengthening of the nation’s healthcare infrastructure. They also expressed satisfaction over the continuous expansion and development of PGIMER and voiced confidence that the institute will continue to remain at the forefront of delivering advanced and quality healthcare services to the people. The IMA Chandigarh leadership thanked the Central Government for the decision and expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue in the future to further strengthen medical education and healthcare services across the country.
