People Have Been Waiting for Years for Direct Connectivity Between Banur–Landran Road and Chandigarh’s Madhya Marg : Hardev Singh Ubha

Government’s Indifference Has Left People Frustrated and Concerned : Hardev Singh Ubha

S.A.S.Nagar 31 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab State Press Secretary Hardev Singh Ubha, along with Gurpreet Kaur Ubha, Municipal Councillor (MC), Ward No. 41, Mohali, visited the site of the incomplete bridge connecting Airport Road (Sector 67/66) to Wave Estate (Sectors 85/84) via Sectors 80/81 and expressed serious concern over the extraordinary delay in its completion. They said that despite being one of the most important infrastructure projects for Mohali, the bridge has remained incomplete for nearly 7–8 years, causing immense inconvenience to thousands of residents every day. Hardev Singh Ubha stated that the bridge is a vital traffic link for Mohali, yet it has not been opened for public use. Residents of Wave Estate, Sectors 84, 85, 80, 81 and nearby areas are compelled to travel through longer and heavily congested routes, leading to unnecessary traffic jams, wastage of valuable time and increased fuel consumption. He said that once completed, the bridge will provide direct connectivity to Banur–Landran Road on one side and Chandigarh's Madhya Marg on the other, significantly improving connectivity between different sectors of Mohali. It will also reduce traffic congestion and ensure substantial savings in travel time and fuel for daily commuters.

Gurpreet Kaur Ubha said that thousands of families living in the surrounding sectors have been waiting for this bridge for years. She added that the prolonged delay has adversely affected daily commuters, students, senior citizens, office-goers and emergency services. She stressed that people deserve modern infrastructure that is completed within a reasonable timeframe and not projects that remain unfinished for years. Hardev Singh Ubha further stated that the importance of this bridge extends far beyond easing traffic movement. Its completion will provide faster and more convenient access to several important government offices, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and commercial centres. Many government departments are also awaiting the bridge's completion as it will significantly improve accessibility and administrative efficiency. Questioning the prolonged delay, Ubha asked why such a vital public project has remained pending for nearly eight years. If the delay was due to a court stay, why has the issue not been resolved despite the passage of so many years? If there were administrative, technical or any other hurdles, what concrete measures were taken to remove them? He said that the Punjab Government and the concerned authorities must place the complete facts before the people in the interest of transparency and accountability.

Hardev Singh Ubha appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang, MLA Kulwant Singh, Mayor Sarabjit Singh Samana and senior officials of GMADA to complete the remaining construction work on a war footing and dedicate the bridge to the public at the earliest so that residents, government institutions and the entire city of Mohali can benefit from this long-awaited connectivity. He also demanded a fair, transparent and time-bound inquiry into the prolonged delay in the project. If negligence on the part of any official, agency or contractor is established, strict legal action must be initiated so that vital public infrastructure projects are not allowed to remain incomplete for years. Concluding his statement, Hardev Singh Ubha said, "The people of Mohali no longer want promises—they want results. This bridge is not merely an infrastructure project; it is a lifeline for Mohali's future traffic management, connectivity and development. The Punjab Government and GMADA must accord it the highest priority and ensure its immediate completion."
