Punjab Congress SC Department Condemns Brutal Lathi Charge on Safai Karamcharis, Gives Government Two-Day Ultimatum Chandigarh 24 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Punjab Pradesh Congress Scheduled Caste Department has strongly condemned the brutal lathi charge on protesting safai karamcharis in Barnala, calling it an inhuman assault on the dignity, constitutional rights and self-respect of Dalit workers. The Department alleged that, on the orders of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police used excessive force against peacefully protesting safai karamcharis, leaving several injured. The Department demanded the immediate suspension and strict legal action against all police officers responsible for the brutality. Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjit Youth Wing Constituted : Wadala
Chandigarh 24 July ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : In a press statement, Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjit Secretary General Gurpratap Singh Wadala informed that, under the directions of party president Giani Harpreet Singh, the organizational structure of the Youth Akali Dal has been announced to bring young people onto the party platform and organize them. The newly appointed team will organize the Youth Akali Dal from the state level down to the district and booth levels within fifteen days. Wadala said that Gurjit Singh Talwandi has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Youth Akali Dal. Gurjit Singh Talwandi comes from a family with a multi-generational association with the Shiromani Akali Dal. He is the grandson of Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi, former president of the Shiromani Akali Dal and SGPC, and Sardar Randhir Singh Cheema, former minister and former SGPC member.Talwandi has worked diligently as the party's chief spokesperson. Along with being a law graduate, he has also completed an M.A. in International Political Relations from the University of London. Considering his Akali background and educational qualifications, the entire party has placed its trust in him and entrusted him with the responsibility of strengthening the youth wing of the Akali Dal.
Wadala further stated that several other hardworking and honest young leaders from across Punjab have also been appointed. Under the leadership of Gurjit Singh Talwandi, the team will tour Punjab, mobilize the youth for the party, and, in consultation with the senior leadership, prepare the state-level and district-level organizational structure of the Youth Akali Dal. In the newly formed team, besides President Gurjit Singh Talwandi, Advocate Surtej Singh Bassi has been appointed General Secretary and Chief Spokesperson. The Senior Vice Presidents will include Jatinder Singh Paharipur, Gursewak Singh Manyana, Charanjit Singh Mavi, Navinderpreet Singh Longowal, and Varinder Singh Chahal. The General Secretaries include Gurjit Singh Sona (Nihal Singh Wala), Ravinder Singh Shahpur, Satnam Singh Satta, Amit Sethi Balachaur, and Satinder Singh Riar. Wadala expressed hope that this team will work wholeheartedly to expand and strengthen the Akali Dal family.
