Chandigarh Marathon 2026 to bring together 1,500 runners for a run towards a Sustainable Life on Oct 11
SSP Chandigarh Kanwardeep Kaur and DC Chandigarh Nishant Yadav to flag off different race categories
Chandigarh 8 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Chandigarh Marathon & Wellness 2026, themed “Run for a Sustainable Life – Run for a Drug-Free Chandigarh”, is set to bring together around 1,500 runners from different age groups and walks of life on October 11 at Capitol Complex, Sector 1, Chandigarh. Organised by Chandigarh Life, the second edition of the marathon aims to promote fitness, wellness and healthy living while creating awareness about sustainability and the need for a drug-free society. SSP Chandigarh Kanwardeep Kaur and Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh Nishant Yadav will be the Chief Guests and will flag off different race categories. The event will feature the 21.1-km Half Marathon, timed 10-km and 5-km runs, 5-km and 3-km fun runs, a Walkathon and Kids’ Runs. The first flag-off is scheduled for 5 am.
The participation has witnessed a rise this year, with nearly 1,500 runners expected compared to around 1,300 participants in the previous edition. The increase reflects the growing interest in running and greater awareness about fitness, preventive health and active lifestyles. Organisers Rahul Goyal and Danny said the marathon was not merely a sporting event but a celebration of Chandigarh’s growing wellness movement. “We want to encourage people, especially youngsters, to make fitness and healthy living a part of their everyday lives. Through this event, we also want to reinforce the message of choosing sports and wellness over drugs and substance abuse,” he said.The organisers have also incorporated sustainability into the event. Through the Roundglass Foundation, each participating runner will have a tree named after them, linking their participation with the city’s green and sustainability initiatives. The marathon will also see the participation of nearly 50 children with hearing and speech impairments, highlighting the event’s focus on inclusivity and ensuring that children with different abilities have an opportunity to be part of the city’s growing fitness and wellness movement.
