Home Minister Amit Shah’s Punjab Visit a Crucial Step Towards Dismantling Drug Supply Chains, Drug Mafias and Gangster Networks : Tarun Chugh
Chandigarh 19 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : BJP National Headquarters In-Charge and MP Tarun Chugh said that the Bhagwant Mann government’s pretence of waging a war against drugs in Punjab has been thoroughly exposed. The arrest of Aam Aadmi Party youth leader Aman Anand Jalandhariya in connection with the alleged illegal sale of one lakh intoxicating drug tablets in Jalandhar has raised serious questions about the AAP government’s claims of fighting the drug menace. While Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann makes tall claims about his government’s anti-drug campaign, the arrest of a leader associated with his own party in a drug-related case exposes the glaring contradictions in those claims. The question is simple: if the government is committed to dismantling the drug supply chain, how are such networks continuing to operate?
Chugh said that the people of Punjab are no longer willing to settle for hollow promises. They want concrete action and accountability. The drug trade, deteriorating law and order, and expanding gangster networks have placed Punjab’s youth and families under serious threat. Drugs have become alarmingly accessible in localities across the state, while those who raise their voices against the menace face threats and, in some cases, violent attacks. The families of those who have lost their lives while fighting drugs deserve justice, and every person involved in drug trafficking must face strict legal action.
Chugh said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Punjab on October 20 is extremely significant. Decisive action against the drug trade and organised crime, effective checks on cross-border smuggling, dismantling the drug supply chain and crushing gangster networks must be the priorities. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a clear target has been set to make Punjab drug-free by December 31, 2029. The people of Punjab deserve more than political slogans; they deserve a determined campaign that delivers measurable results against drugs.
Taking a swipe at Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Chugh said that Punjab’s leadership should learn from Gujarat, Haryana and Rajasthan, where drug consignments and trafficking networks are being targeted through enforcement action. In Punjab, the challenge is particularly alarming, with drugs reportedly reaching neighbourhoods and villages with disturbing ease. The entire chain, from suppliers and distributors to those providing protection to traffickers, must be identified and dismantled. Publicity campaigns cannot secure Punjab’s future unless the entire drug network is confronted.
Chugh said that the Bhagwant Mann government must explain when its promises will translate into tangible results. Establishing the rule of law, bringing drug traffickers to justice and ensuring that no individual escapes accountability because of political connections are the government's fundamental responsibilities. Amit Shah’s visit underlines the urgency of decisive action against the drug menace. Punjab must be freed from drugs, fear and gangsterism to protect its youth and safeguard the future of generations to come.
