Warring asks Shah on finishing drugs Says, it is like post-dated cheque from a crashing bank Chandigarh 30 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today asked the union Home Minister Amit Shah as to why has he set such a long deadline, till December, 2029, for finishing the problem of drugs in Punjab. “Leave aside Punjab, who knows whether the BJP will be in power at the centre by then, as in all likelihood it will not?”, Warring asked while remarking, "it is like a long post-dated cheque of a crashing bank". He asked why did the BJP government at the centre woke up to the problem of drugs only on the eve of elections. Punjab Government springs into action following threat to burn effigies
S.A.S.Nagar 30 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Today Balwinder Singh Kumbhra, President of the SC/BC Morcha Punjab, held a press conference regarding the issue of inflated electricity bills. Expressing gratitude to the Punjab Government, President Kumbhra remarked that while the move was belated, it was a welcome step; residents of Punjab now have hope that the excessive bills received over the past several months will be waived. He stated that the Chief Minister of Punjab has issued a directive announcing that bills previously calculated on an 'average' basis will be revised; instead, consumers will be billed according to the actual meter readings taken by meter readers.
No consumer's electricity connection will be disconnected for non-payment of these inflated bills until the correct meter readings have been provided to them. President Kumbhra appealed to the Chief Minister, noting that people in Punjab remain apprehensive that, while waiting for the meter reader, these inflated charges might simply be added to future bills. ...so that the bills generated in the interim do not become overdue for payment.
He stated that for poor households where electricity meters had burnt out and remained pending at the office for a long time, the bills generated during the period without meters should be immediately cleared, allowing the consumers to breathe a sigh of relief.
He urged that immediate instructions be issued to senior officials of the Electricity Department to ensure—without any negligence—that accurate bills are issued based on actual meter readings, while applying the waiver of 300 units per month; this would prevent financial loss to the government and bring relief to the people of Punjab.
