Ironically a vast majority of the accident victims are in the age group of 25-35 years,” Road traffic accidents happened to be the most common cause of vascular injury with 91.4% of two-wheelers in accidents. The majority of the two-wheelers were motorcycles. The motorcyclists are more susceptible because of the high-energy trauma to the unprotected extremities, he informed. Dr Vimal Vibhakar said “ There is a drop of 5% in road accidents globally in the past 12 years , whereas it has increased by 15.3% in India. People should know the importance of the golden hour concept, which means the first 60 mins after any accident are most important. If an accident victim reaches a hospital with trauma services and an expert medical team , a lot of lives can be saved.” Time is of great importance in vascular trauma. If the vascularity is not restored in the least possible time, the chances of saving the injured or damaged limb are very low.
