Neuronavigation-guided surgery performed on tumor in a critical brain area; patient recovers without neurological deficits
Panchkula 30 January ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Advances in medical technology are making even the most complex brain surgeries safer and more precise. Demonstrating this progress, Paras Health Panchkula has successfully performed a neuronavigation-guided brain tumor surgery on a patient with a tumor located in an eloquent area of the brain—regions responsible for vital functions such as speech, movement, and sensation.
The complex procedure was led by Dr. Gaurav Sharma, Senior Consultant – Neurosurgery, and was completed with high precision. The patient is recovering well and has shown no post-operative neurological complications, marking a significant milestone for advanced neurosurgical care in the region.
Tumors located in eloquent areas of the brain pose a major surgical challenge, as even a minor deviation during surgery can result in permanent neurological damage. To address this risk, the surgical team used neuronavigation technology, often described as a “GPS for the brain.” The system provides real-time, three-dimensional images of the brain, allowing surgeons to accurately locate the tumor while minimising impact on surrounding healthy tissue.
Explaining the importance of the technology, Dr. Gaurav Sharma said, “Operating on tumors in eloquent brain regions requires extreme precision, as critical functions can be affected by even the smallest error. Neuronavigation offers real-time guidance, helping us plan and execute the surgery safely. In this case, the tumor was removed successfully, and the patient is recovering without the neurological issues we usually worry about.”
Emphasising the hospital’s focus on advanced infrastructure, Dr. Pankaj Mittal, Facility Director, Paras Health Panchkula, said, “The introduction of neuronavigation significantly strengthens our neurosurgical capabilities. Advanced technologies like this enhance patient safety and improve outcomes, especially in complex and high-risk cases. Our aim is to ensure patients in this region receive world-class neurological care without the need to travel to metros.” The successful use of neuronavigation further establishes Paras Health Panchkula as a centre for advanced, technology-driven neurosurgery, offering safer procedures, greater surgical accuracy, and improved quality of life for patients.
