Jathedar gives government one month to amend “Satkar Amendment Act”
Amritsar 29 June ( PDL ) : Sri Akal Takht Sahib has ordered the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of Punjab to amend the sacrilege law Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act-2026 within a month. During the hearing held on Monday (June 29), Akal Takht Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargajj raised 6 objections to the law. Punjabi News He said that there is no objection to the government making a law to punish those who commit sacrilege, but the Vidhan Sabha cannot take a decision on matters related to Sikh vocabulary, etiquette and sect. Till then, this law should be stopped. The Jathedar asked 2 questions. During this, the MLAs admitted that they had given their consent without reading the law. Before the hearing, the Jathedar also played two videos of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The Jathedar first discussed the objectionable clauses and wording in the esteemed Act with the MLAs and ministers belonging to different parties. The Jathedar also urged the ministers and MLAs not to abuse each other. Today, all the Sikh MLAs and cabinet ministers present at the Secretariat Sri Akal Takht Sahib after the meeting agreed to amend it according to Sikh sentiments. In response to five cheers, all the MLAs and ministers agreed to amend it by raising their hands. Meanwhile, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj said that the law should be kept on hold and the government should not interfere in the activities of the sect and the law should be amended within 1 month.
