Man regains mobility after complex keyhole knee surgery at Max Hospital
S.A.S.Nagar 8 August ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A 22-year-old man from Moga got his mobility back, after a complex keyhole knee surgery at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali. The young patient had struggled to walk properly for nearly a year, hampered by severe stiffness in his right knee following treatment received elsewhere. However this advanced and minimally invasive arthroscopic procedure at Max enabled him to walk unaided once again.
Sukhbir Singh had suffered a serious knee injury two years earlier, involving a fracture and ligament damage, that was treated at another hospital, with the injury recurring in 2025. During his recovery, excessive scar tissues formed inside the joint, causing progressive stiffness. By the time he arrived at Max for specialized care, his knee had frozen into a bent position of nearly 40 degrees, with movement restricted to just 40–60 degrees.
Following a detailed evaluation, a team led by Dr Harjoban Singh, director–orthopaedics, joint replacement & arthroscopy opted to preserve the patient's natural knee through an advanced arthroscopic (keyhole) procedure. Using camera-guided instruments inserted through small incisions, along with radiofrequency energy to precisely clear away scar tissues, the team restored near-normal knee movement.
He recovered well and was discharged within three days, and within two weeks had regained near-normal knee movement, walking independently without support - a significant milestone in his recovery. Dr Harjoban Singh said that combined with early rehabilitation, the procedure helped restore his mobility and enabled him to walk independently again.
