Chandigarh 11 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : In a highly publicized case from 2017 in Magarala Dina Nagar, Gurdaspur district, Punjab, a family has finally won after a nine-year legal battle. Following the court's decision, the incident has once again become a topic of discussion among locals. On December 21, 2017, two policemen and 6 other men forcibly entered the home of the late retired Sanskrit teacher, Master Bachan Singh Rana (Shastri Ji), without a warrant. They began searching the house, moving through various rooms and scattering items. When Master Ji inquired about the reason for the search, they pushed him forcibly and treated rudely.
When Master Ji's eldest son, Dr. Inderjeet Singh Rana, who works as a medical officer at the Community Health Center, Singhowal Dina Nagar, learned of the incident, he went to the house and questioned the intruders, but no one provided a satisfactory answer. Instead, these drunk men misbehaved with Dr. Rana and falsely accused his family of illicit alcohol trading. During this illegal search, they found nothing in Dr. Rana's home. When people gathered around, the men who had forced their way into the house fled. After they left, the family discovered that some cash and gold jewelry were missing from the house. When Dr. Rana sought information about the search from the Excise Department, they stated that their department does not take action against anyone without a complaint or a warrant, and that they had not received any complaints against Dr. Rana or any of his family members.
After receiving this information, Dr. Rana filed a complaint regarding the incident with Helpline 181 and the police station, demanding action against the accused. Due to the negligence of its own employees, the police department delayed taking action and began pressuring Dr. Rana to compromise through various means. After going through numerous stages, the case finally reached the Honorable Court, and after a nine-year long battle, the court delivered justice and ruled in Dr. Rana's favor. The accused, Sukha Singh, Harminder Singh, Sonu, Prince, Sushil Kumar, Harbir Singh, and Jaspal Singh, were sentenced under sections 147, 452, 149, and 506 of the IPC. This court decision is significant because every ordinary citizen should know that no one can enter their home without their consent and without a warrant and invade the privacy and security of them and their families.
