Chandigarh 28 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today demanded an independent probe into the campus violence in the state, noting that there appeared to be a pattern in the violence in the two university campuses. He said, the government has been caught unawares once again as it still remains clueless about the cause of the violence.

Warring noted that the spontaneous violence in two private university campuses in Punjab within a span of few days was an ominous sign and was yet another example of the complete collapse of law and order in the state. He expressed grave concern over the pattern of violence where the reasons for protests were described to be similar in both the campuses. He said, in both the cases the students’ anger was sparked off by the reports of alleged rape and death of girl students.

He said that only an impartial and independent probe can establish the truth. He said it was important to address the concerns of the students about their safety, particularly that of the girl students. The PCC president observed that such violence in the university campuses does not augur well for a border state like Punjab and that too when the elections are due within less than six months.
