Government must soon release the full 'Bhavantar' compensation amount to potato farmers : Chaduni

Funds have not reached farmers' accounts; if payment is not made soon, farmers will be forced to take drastic action

Chandigarh/Haryana 6 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chaduni) has demanded that the Haryana government immediately release the outstanding dues owed to potato farmers under the *Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana* (Price Difference Compensation Scheme) directly into their bank accounts. Farmers have suffered significant financial losses this year due to the very low market prices for the potato crop; many were unable to even recover their production costs. Although the state government had released two installments under the *Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana* to provide financial relief, a large number of farmers remain deprived of the full amount due to them under the scheme, even after the lapse of several months.

According to the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chaduni), potato farmers were owed approximately ₹90 crore under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana. While it has come to light that the government has released a portion of this amount, the funds have not yet reached the bank accounts of many farmers, leading to immense anger and dissatisfaction among them. The National President of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chaduni) has urged the government to treat farmers' issues seriously and promptly deposit the entire outstanding *Bhavantar Bharpai* (price deficit compensation) amount into their accounts. He stated that farmers are already under financial strain due to low crop prices, rising agricultural costs, and the high prices of diesel, fertilizers, pesticides, and other farming expenses. Under these circumstances, the delay in disbursing the government-announced compensation amount constitutes an injustice to the farmers.

BKU Chaduni has warned the government that if the full amount under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana is not promptly credited to farmers' accounts, they will be compelled to resort to agitation and take drastic measures to secure their rights, with the government bearing full responsibility for the consequences. BKU (Chaduni) has demanded that the state government announce a clear timeline for the release of outstanding amounts and ensure immediate payment into the accounts of farmers for whom the funds have already been released.
