Inauguration of new sewerage and water pipelines in Atawa village at a cost of ₹60 lakh : residents to get major relief

New momentum for the development of Atawa village — a major step towards resolving sewerage and water issues

Chandigarh 8 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Development works by the Public Health Department were launched, marking a significant step towards resolving long-standing sewerage and water-related issues in Attawa village and Sector-42B, Chandigarh (Ward No. 24). On this occasion, work was launched in Atawa village to strengthen, supply, and lay a new sewerage pipeline with a diameter of 200 millimeters. Simultaneously, work on laying a new water pipeline in the area was also initiated.

In the village of Atawa, recurring issues such as frequent sewer blockages, sewage water accumulating on the roads, and road cave-ins were being reported. These problems were causing significant inconvenience to both local residents and passersby. Addressing the long-standing demand of the area's residents with due seriousness, this important project is being undertaken to provide a permanent solution to these issues. These two development projects will cost approximately ₹60 lakh. Sub-Divisional Officer Yashpal Gupta, who was present at the site, provided this information. He stated that once both projects are completed, the area's sewerage and water supply systems will see significant improvement, bringing great relief to the local residents. On this occasion, Narta Ram Sharma inaugurated the sewerage pipeline work by breaking a coconut, while Sukhdev Singh inaugurated the work of laying a new water pipeline by breaking a coconut.
Local resident Sandeep Soni stated that frequent sewage blockages caused the road to cave in at several locations, causing significant inconvenience to residents and passersby. He expressed hope that the laying of the new sewer line would resolve issues related to sewage and drainage, providing great relief to the people. Meanwhile, local resident Surjit Singh explained that because there was no water pipeline along the line where their houses are located, the water connection had to be drawn from a distance. Consequently, there were frequent issues with the supply of contaminated water. He stated that the laying of the new pipeline would improve the water supply, and residents are hopeful of receiving clean water. Speaking on the occasion, Councilor Jasbir Singh Bunti stated that the all-round development of the entire Ward No. 24—including Atawa village—is his priority. He mentioned that development works related to roads, sewerage, water supply, street lights, parks, and other basic amenities are being carried out continuously, and efforts are underway to complete the remaining projects on a priority basis.
He stated that development works must reach every region and every section of society without any political discrimination. The village is a significant part of Ward No. 24, and it is his responsibility to ensure that the local residents are provided with better basic amenities. Jasbir Singh Bunty stated that his objective is not merely to make announcements but to ensure that people receive direct benefits through the execution of development works at the grassroots level. He assured the residents that the pace of development in Ward No. 24 would continue unabated and that their issues would be resolved on a priority basis. Hundreds of dignitaries and local residents, including Junior Engineers Dheeraj Kumar and Anurag Yadav, as well as Davinder Singh, Yugal Sharma, Kuljit Singh, Hardeep Singh, and Lakha, were present at the event.
