The 20th Foundation Day celebrations bring over 1,600 students to IISER Mohali
Academic and scientific leaders explore collaboration opportunities in institutional heads meet
S.A.S.Nagar 26 September ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The two-day celebrations of the 20th Foundation Day of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali kicked off on Saturday with massive participation of around 1,600 school students from across the region, giving young learners an opportunity to explore the world of scientific research and interact with leading scientists. A series of events and activities were also organised in various labs.
The first day of the celebrations featured an Open House wherein students visited the campus, interacted with scientists, scholars and researchers and explored various laboratories and research facilities. This occasion provided students with first-hand exposure to cutting-edge scientific research and offered them an opportunity to understand how scientific discoveries are translated into research and innovation.
Post lunch session witnessed a symposium on 'exploring inter-institutional opportunities for collaboration in science and technology which was graced by Prof. Anil K. Tripathi, Director, IISER, Mohali, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, Dr. Vikas Rishi from BRIC-NABI, Mohali, Prof. Dulal Panda, Director, NIPER Mohali, Dr. Sanjeev Soni from CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh, Dr. Sachin Sharma from SCL, Mohali, Dr. Karthikeyan Subramanian from CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh, Prof. Rudra Pratap, Vice Chancellor, Plaksha University, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director, PEC, Chandigarh, Er. Pardeep Garg, Executive Director, PSCST and Prof. Anindya Datta, Director, INST Mohali. 
The event was focused on strengthening linkages between educational institutions and promoting greater exposure of students to scientific research, innovation and higher education opportunities. The academic leaders also discussed possibilities of collaboration and creating more avenues for students to engage with scientists and research institutions.
Present on the occasion, IISER, Mohali Director Anil K Tripathy said, "An institute’s journey is meaningful when it is able to inspire the next generation and build meaningful partnerships with the wider academic and scientific community. Massive participation from students reflects the curiosity and enthusiasm of young minds towards science. At the same time, the symposium explores areas of collaboration in science and technology which is an important part of our effort to make science more accessible." The two-day celebrations will conclude on Sunday with Prof. Shekhar Mande, President, Indian National Science Academy as the Chief Guest who will deliver the Foundation Day Lecture.
