BKU Ekta (Ugrahan) burned effigies of the Chief Minister of Punjab and the political alliance responsible for the drug menace in hundreds of villages across Punjab
Chandigarh 25 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The BKU Ekta (Ugrahan) organized protests across approximately 425 villages in 15 districts of Punjab, where effigies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann—as well as those representing the nexus between drug traffickers, politicians, and the police—were burned. The organization also expressed strong resentment against the Punjab government for ignoring the voice of the people. The organization's State Senior Vice-President, Jhanda Singh Jethuke, and State Secretary, Shingara Singh Maan, stated that this action was carried out in coordination with the protests being held today by various organizations across Punjab in support of the 'Mansa Lok Sangharsh' (Mansa People's Struggle). They stated that, in addition to male and female farmers, agricultural laborers also participated in these actions in several places. They asserted that a three-party nexus is responsible for the drug menace in Punjab, and that the current Bhagwant Mann-led government in the state is providing cover for this nexus. The so-called "war on drugs" is merely a charade; in fact, it is directed against those who oppose drugs. Therefore, the organization has taken this action—demanding justice for the murder of Parvinder Singh Jhota, alongside other demands—while specifically targeting the nexus between the Punjab government and drug smugglers.
They stated that, during the action, the organization demanded that the killers of Parvinder Singh be given severe punishments. Bring to light the major drug traffickers and their administrative and political patrons, and take action against them. Give a compensation of two crore to Parwinder Singh's family. Parminder Singh's wife should be given a government job commensurate with her qualifications. Along with ensuring medical treatment for the injured, provide them with appropriate compensation as well. Break up the nexus between drug smugglers, politicians, police and administrative officials, and gangsters. Impose severe punishments on everyone involved in this trade. Break the international drug trafficking networks. Shut down the factories within the country that manufacture synthetic drugs, and tighten security at the borders. Stop the policy of filling the government treasury through the sale of liquor. Stop targeting the victimized youth. Formulate an effective policy for their rehabilitation. Provide financial assistance for rehabilitation. Target the major drug traffickers and throw them in jail. Immediately stop the war against the people, and instead wage it against the nexus of drug trafficking. Confiscate the assets of drug traffickers, and also provide compensation to the families of those who were killed while opposing drug traffickers.
