BRP Leaders’ Security Concerns Grow After Pledge to Eliminate Drugs in 100 Hours
Grewal and other national office-bearers fear threat from drug mafia; party seeks probe and security review by Punjab DGP
Chandigarh 20 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : The Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party (BRP) has expressed concern over the security of its national office-bearers following its announcement to take decisive action against drugs and eliminate the menace within 100 hours in Punjab. The party apprehends that its leaders could be targeted by the drug mafia because of their strong stand against the drug trade. National Secretary Manoj Chaubey has written to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), seeking an investigation and a review of security arrangements for National Vice President and Punjab in-charge Sukhmanderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan and other party office-bearers.
According to the letter, information was received about suspicious conversations allegedly taking place through WhatsApp and other applications in the vicinity of Grewal’s residence in Chandigarh on the night of August 25, 2026. The party has also referred to previously received threatening emails and FIR No. 0221 registered at Jamalpur Police Station in Ludhiana, urging the concerned agencies to examine the available digital evidence.
The BRP has demanded that the threat perception be assessed on the basis of call records and other available evidence, and that appropriate security measures be taken accordingly. However, the alleged involvement of the drug mafia and any link between it and the reported suspicious communications have not been independently verified.
