Chandigarh 15 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal today called for dismantling the drug mafia by taking action against the politician-police nexus, even as she demanded chief minister Bhagwant Mann and State DGP Gaurav Yadav resign for failing to control the drug menace. In a statement here, the Bathinda MP said even as Punjabis were in grief and were on the roads demanding justice for anti-drug crusader Parminder Singh Jhota who was gunned down in cold blood while protesting against the illegal sale of drugs from a medical shop in Mansa two days back, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was unmoved. “No action has been taken against Mansa legislator Vijay Singla who is accused of harbouring drug traffickers or the DSP and SSP who are accused of indulging in corruption”.
Harsimrat Badal said none of the demands of the bereaved family, including handing over the case to the CBI to uncover the conspiracy behind the killing of Jhota, had been fulfilled. “The government is yet to tell why the killer Ashwini Kumar had been given a pistol license in 2024 by the Mansa SSP despite the fact that his medical store had been raided ten times and he was also sent to jail in 2023 for selling illegal habit forming narcotics”. Also demanding action against the Mansa drug inspector and all other officials who had failed to take requisite action against Ashwini Kumar despite complaints, Badal said “it seems that the drug trade from the medical store was flourishing under the nose of the drug inspector, police and the local legislator. Action must be taken against all these persons”, she asserted while adding that suspension of a SHO in the case seemed to be mere eyewash.
Asserting that the SAD, which had supported the Punjab Bandh call given by Jhota’s father Bhim Singh, said it was also committed to taking up all the demands raised by the bereaved father besides standing with Punjabis who were bearing the brunt of the drug menace on an everyday basis. Stating that the SAD had already formed the Mai Bhago Di Fauj to counter drug traffickers and their patrons across the State, Badal said “we will broad base this movement in the coming days and take the fight to the homes of the drug mafia and their god fathers”.
