Chandigarh 26 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : Today, the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki Maharaj, the author of the Ramayana, was celebrated with great enthusiasm across India and in Chandigarh. On the auspicious occasion of Maharishi Valmiki, the author of the original Ramayana and the one who ushered in a new era of Sanskrit literature, a special program related to the Ramayana, including Deepdan (lighting), continuous recitation of the Ramayana, and bhajan kirtan, was organized at the Maharishi Shaktipeeth in Sector 24 from early morning. Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon, AAP Chandigarh President Vijay Pal Singh, Subhash Chawla, Bhupinder Singh Badheri, Deepa Dubey, and several other leaders participated in the program, highlighting the life of Lord Valmiki Maharaj. Tandon, while extending his best wishes, said that Maharishi Valmiki's teachings inspire society to follow the path of truth, equality, harmony, and humanity. Sanjay Tandon performed the flag ceremony and received the blessings of the Adi Kavi, Lord Valmiki. Meanwhile, Prem Shammi, President of the Northern India Scheduled Castes and Tribes Welfare Organization, and Hakam Sarhadi, President of the Valmiki Bhavan Committee, urged the Valmiki community to understand the significance of Lord Valmiki's pen and ensure that as many children as possible receive higher education, as education is the only medium through which society can progress in the educational, social, religious, economic, and political spheres. On the occasion of Lord Valmiki's appearance festival, the Valmiki community must pledge to abandon the prevailing ostentation, superstition, ghost worship, and drug addiction and ensure that as many children as possible receive education. He appealed to all citizens to light lamps in their homes on this day. Since morning, devotees have lined up in long queues at the temple to pay obeisance and receive the blessings of Lord Valmiki Maharaj. Pradeep Goyal and Meena Sharma of Chandigarh Seva Bharti and their members performed a havan (fire sacrifice) at Maharishi Valmiki Bhawan. The temple committee organized an unbroken langar (an unbroken meal) for the devotees. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Lord Valmiki, the fair in Sector 24 was crowded from morning till evening and the people who came to the temple also did shopping and the children enjoyed the swings.
