SGPC College Principals Appreciate Dhami’s Leadership, Condemn Personal Vilification

Meeting at Kalgidhar Niwas calls for dignified public discourse and continued focus on educational development

Chandigarh 5 October ( Ranjeet Singh Dhaliwal ) : A meeting of principals of colleges functioning under the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) was held today at Kalgidhar Niwas, Chandigarh, under the chairmanship of Bibi Harjinder Kaur, with SGPC Secretary Education Sukhminder Singh participating in the deliberations. The meeting discussed the development of SGPC colleges and the prevailing situation concerning the organisation and its leadership. The principals unanimously appreciated the contribution of SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami towards the development of the organisation’s educational institutions. They acknowledged his commitment to strengthening these institutions and his consistent support for their educational mission. Sharing their experiences of interacting with the SGPC President, the principals described him as a gentleman marked by humility, kindness and a down-to-earth approach in public life. They observed that his accessibility and willingness to listen to institutional concerns had earned their respect. His commitment and dedication to the governance of SGPC institutions, they said, deserved recognition.

The participants expressed concern over what they described as attempts to malign the President personally and tarnish the image of the SGPC. They unanimously condemned the character assassination directed at Dhami, stating that personal vilification undermined the dignity of public discourse and diverted attention from constructive discussion of institutional issues. The principals emphasised that criticism of any person, policy or administrative decision must be expressed in decent and respectful language. Differences of opinion, they maintained, should be addressed through reasoned discussion, with due regard for the dignity of individuals and institutions. They expressed the view that disagreement should never become a justification for abusive language, personal humiliation or attacks on an individual’s reputation. Addressing the meeting, Bibi Harjinder Kaur shared her views on the positive contribution of the present SGPC leadership, particularly in supporting its educational institutions. She appreciated the work being undertaken and highlighted the importance of recognising constructive contributions while discussing the challenges facing the organisation.

Sukhminder Singh also referred to several examples of Dhami’s positive approach and support for educational institutions. Drawing upon his administrative interactions with the President, he highlighted S. Dhami’s willingness to consider institutional concerns and his commitment to the development of SGPC colleges. His observations reinforced the appreciation expressed by the principals for the President’s humility and dedication. Alongside the discussion on the prevailing situation, the meeting reviewed the development of SGPC colleges. The deliberations underlined the importance of sustaining attention to educational progress and strengthening the institutions’ contribution to students and society. The participants observed that the SGPC’s educational mission required cooperation, responsible leadership and constructive engagement. They stressed that public discussion concerning the organisation should retain a sense of responsibility and respect, even where there were differences over its policies or functioning.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous appeal for an end to personal vilification of the SGPC President and attempts to tarnish the organisation’s image. Those present reiterated their appreciation of Harjinder Singh Dhami’s contribution to educational development and called for dignity, restraint and decency in public expression. The consensus emerging from the meeting was that concerns and criticism should be articulated responsibly, while the development of SGPC educational institutions should continue to receive sustained attention and collective support.
